Philosophical Foundation
We must examine the foundation of our civilization to find more conclusive answers and true sustainable solutions before we run out of time arguing every issue endlessly. The ancient Greeks had a surprising insight into the nature of the cosmos. The Atomists pursued an understanding of the small structures of the universe while the Holists held a systemic view of the cosmos.
The fragmented Western worldview, unbridled capitalist consumerism and reductionist approach of science developed from the philosophy of the atomists, but without holism, that philosophical foundation prevents us from achieving a secure and sustainable global society.
Today, we know that every part and particle of the universe has both an atomistic structure and a holistic emergent property (quality). Observing the universe through a reductionist eye, but largely blind to its holistic emergent qualities yields an incomplete and flawed perception of reality. Our civilization and institutions built on such flawed foundations are not equipped to solve the multi-dimensional problems of social, economic and environmental sustainability.
Democracy, another Greek invention, is the other leg on which Western civilization stands. We know that viable and sustainable systems must be internally coherent without conflict and have a fully reciprocating relationship among all the internal parts and with their external support systems. Democracy with its flaws and factions is an inherently conflicted concept and practice. Conflicted systems have a life expectancy at the end of which they are subject to collapse.
It is our conclusion that while greening all aspects of our lives and institutions continues to be important, greening alone will not be enough. Sustainability will not be achieved by conventional concepts and institutions. To survive and thrive on our endangered planet requires a systemic redesign and restructuring of the ways we live, work, commute, consume and govern ourselves.
After centuries of wastefulness on an industrial scale humanity must observe an evolutionary imperative: Use the least of the available resources with the greatest efficiency. Thus the Holigent concept promotes a hybrid socioeconomic solution in which fully reciprocating relationships exist among all the internal as well as the supporting parts and aspects of the whole system that functions by doing the essential most with the least of resources to secure quality of life.
This socioeconomic solution alone may not be enough which is why we strongly promote the Holigent philosophy. The new Holigent philosophy will prepare the foundation for generating and retaining value and wealth by means other than money alone. It will facilitate the transition from the material age to a new epoch in which the quantitative and material aspects of life work in a hybrid arrangement with purely qualitative holistic emergent properties of Holigent communities. The Holigent philosophy and operating system is based on the formula that models cosmic evolutionary self-organization to overcome entropy and continue building our amazingly complex and colorful world.
