A Holigent Urban Village is a proposed human scale, walkable community that consists of low, mid and high-rise mixed-use residential and commercial structures. The majority of its residents will be the employees of businesses that occupy the office, commercial and light industrial spaces of the mixed-use community, which will also feature a shopping promenade and parks with recreational facilities. This “live/work” multi-purpose development will eliminate long commutes by bringing the workplace within close proximity to residences as well as facilitate the transition to sustainable living. The village will utilize the most advanced green technologies in local energy generation, recycling, water reclamation and local food production. A Holigent Urban Village will not sprawl beyond its designated capacity to preserve the walkable human scale. This non-sprawling, human-scaled layout results in low carbon consumption and emissions, increased physical activity and all the accompanying environmental and human health benefits. To satisfy growing demand, additional villages will be developed and joined by a high-speed train or monorail.

The Holigent Urban Village will be a nonprofit development. The community will feature a car-share program

that will help facilitate individuals’ transition to a car-free lifestyle. The nonprofit-owned complexes will provide affordable housing by rent reduction through community credit earned through community service. Holigent developments will enable the introduction of the hybrid economic arrangement offered by the Delta Plan.

The Holigent Development is adaptable to given circumstances. In a dense urban environment the emphasis will be on vertical expansion in a compact arrangement as illustrated above.

Where additional acreage of land is available, the car-free, walkable residential core can be surrounded by a park with recreational facilities as shown in the model to the right.

Still more available acreage could give rise to a farming Holigent village. In that arrangement the residential core with its recreational greenbelt would be surrounded by food producing fields.   

Whenever practical, a number of villages may be built with touching boundaries to form a “closely packed” Holigent Town. This arrangement lends itself for eight villages to be built around a central village that will serve as a major civic, commercial and transportation hub.  Villages may also be built in a string arrangement and joined by elevated rail or monorail transit system.
